Job Description

Vertex seeks a highly skilled individual to join our Process Development Core team as a Process Development Engineering Scientific/Sr. Scientific Associate. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead the production and process development for high quality media, Cell Therapy process intermediates, drug product to support Cell and Gene Therapy portfolio . As a contractor scientist, you will play a significant part in our internal process development work, establishing schedule and maintenance of embryonic stem cell process, This position, based in our Boston, MA facilities, offers a unique opportunity to substantially impact Vertex's mission to bring innovative therapies to patients. The Process Development group offers a dynamic and challenging environment, perfect for individuals who thrive in fast-paced, high-energy settings. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in Upstream processing or a relevant field(s) with a solid technical operations background.

 

Ideal candidate will have experience with upstream manufacturing, Mammalian Cell Culture, Stem Cell, 2D stem cell culturing and 3D reactor differential.

 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Performs pluripotent stem cell culture and differentiation processes in support of process development and optimization.
  • Conducts lab experiments and data analyses in support of process characterization and improvement.
  • Utilizes understanding of principles of molecular and cell biology techniques when troubleshooting typical problems.
  • Applies statistical principles to guide process optimization.
  • Documents experimental procedures and results according to established guidelines.
  • Contributes to authoring technical reports, SOPs and protocols
  • Supports a fully integrated team to facilitate the success of projects.
  • Works within departmental teams, supports deliverables and participates in team discussion on issue resolution.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

 

  • Experience with cell culture and aseptic technique. Bioreactor operation experience preferred.
  • Good communication skills to share technical/scientific information within the team.
  • Willingness to learn and contribute, with a team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and to maintain detailed and accurate records and notes.
  • Must be skilled in the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  JMP and GraphPad Prism preferred.
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work some weekends and holidays.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemical engineering, or a related discipline is required with1 + years relevant experience

Pay Range

Scientific Associate - $32-$42/hr

Sr. Scientific Associate - $45/hr
