Cost Accountant (Contract)

Job Posting Description: 

The Cost Accountant contractor is a member of Vertex's Finance team, supporting the Biopharmaceutical Sciences and Manufacturing Operations (BSMO) organization. This role will be responsible for a broad range of cost accounting operations including assessing and analyzing inventory standard costs, variances, reserves, and cost of goods. This role will partner closely with teams across BSMO and the global organization, including Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance, Accounting, Tax, and Data, Technology and Engineering (DTE). 

This position is based in our Boston, MA office, located in the Seaport area.

This role requires a hybrid work schedule: 3 days in office & 2 days remote on a weekly basis. 

This is a contract role startin in July lasting for 12 months.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Perform cost analyses for Vertex pharmaceutical commercial products as it relates to inventory valuation and cost of goods. 
• Collaborates across Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance, Accounting, and DTE to monitor inventory costing assumptions, production volumes, and delivery cycle. 
• Contribute/Lead with implementation of process improvements. 
• Prepares journal entries to support month-end financial close deliverables. 
• Reconciles and analyzes balance sheet and income statement accounts. 
• Assesses SOX compliance for responsible areas, including assisting with implementing improvements to current controls. 

Knowledge and Skills: 

• Basic understanding of accounting principles and how they apply to pharmaceutical manufacturing. 
• Strong Excel skills and exposure to/use of Oracle EBS, or similar ERP systems. 
• Good communication and organizational skills. Promptly responds to stakeholder inquiries in a 

professional and informative manner. 

• Identifies issues appropriately and elevates them effectively. 
• Proven ability to multi-task in a challenging, fast-paced environment. 

Basic Requirements: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or an equivalent qualification. 
• Typically requires 2 years of experience in a corporate finance/accounting department, public accounting firm or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 
• A track record of success working in a team-based environment. 

$37 - $44/HR
