Job Description

In June 2019, Vertex announced the establishment of a new research site in the Boston area where research, development, and clinical manufacturing for cell and genetic therapies will be primarily based. Cell and genetic therapies represent two rapidly emerging therapeutic modalities with the potential to treat—and even cure—several of the diseases Vertex is focused on, including sickle cell disease and type 1 diabetes. Further investment in a research site specifically designed to advance these programs will be key to Vertex’s continued and sustained leadership in these exciting approaches. At Vertex Cell and Genetic Therapies (VCGT) our research teams will bring together the best biology, technologies and enhanced manufacturing capabilities to ensure we bring these cutting-edge transformative therapies to patients as quickly as possible.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the development of new test methods for characterization of strength, purity and specific classes of impurities.
  • Develop and execute test methods in support of cell therapy Process Development activities (e.g. cell-based potency).
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and trend assay performance.
  • Contribute to analytical development protocols and reports.
  • Transfer assays to QC and review transfer/qualification protocols and reports.
  • Maintain excellent written documentation (e.g. lab notebook and test forms).
  • Assist with lab organization and compliance with lab safety protocols.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors degree and 1 to 3 years of industry experience.
  • Experience with cell banking and other mammalian cell culture techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with the following assays: cell-based potency, ELISA, and SDS-PAGE.
  • Experience with sample management and ELN/LIMS systems.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible with respect to working schedule.
  • Excellent communication skills with the proven ability to build open and collaborative. relationships and work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Contract Length: 12 month with an oportunity to extend

Pay Range

$38/hr. - $40/hr.

Shift/Hours

Monday - Friday.  Occasional extended hours and weekend work might be required
